Doha Metro – Gold Line

Design & Build of this underground Metro Line for the FIFA 2022 World Cup in the heart of Doha, Qatar

Year: 2014

Country: Qatar

Contract Value (US$): 3,400 Million

The Gold Line (GoL) comprises 11 underground stations and approximately 11 km of twin tunnels constructed using EPB TBMs, traversing central Doha to the Khalifa Stadium in the west of the city. Delivered as part of one of the most ambitious urban metro programmes in the Middle East, the line was designed and built under complex geotechnical and logistical conditions in a dense metropolitan environment. The complete cycle from contract signature through to commissioning was achieved within 54 months, reflecting exceptional planning, coordination, and delivery performance on a challenging rapid-transit infrastructure project.

Andreas Tauschinger served as the Joint Venture’s designated Project Director during project start-up and through the critical early construction and tunnelling phase, providing leadership that supported accelerated works. Six EPB TBMs were launched within the first 15 months of the project — a mobilisation achievement seldom matched internationally — underscoring the scale, pace, and engineering sophistication required to deliver this transformational metro corridor in Doha.
