The fixed link across the Great Belt in Denmark consists of an Eastern Brigde and a western tunnel leading towards Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital city. The tunnel construction encountered a number of catastrophic events involving flooding and a major fire, but were overcome and successfully completed in 1997.

Rupert Sternath was the Tunnel Director for this project as appointed by the MT Group Joint Venture during this difficult period of the project delivery.
