M7 Clem Jones Tunnel

This 4.8km long twin tunnel road tunnel was constructed to underpass the Brisbane River through the centre of Brisbane city.

The twin tunnels with a diameter of 12.5m were driven through a hard tuff rock using 2 Hardrock TBM’s. This toll road was constructed by a Tier 1 Joint Venture over a 4 year period and opened to operations in March 2010. Dieter Meyer was the Tunnel Director throughout the construction period of this complex inner city tunnelling project.

At the time the M7 Clem Jones Tunnel was the longest road tunnel in Australia.
